Then, shorts began the slow process of gaining approval. People began to discover their merit. In hot weather, a pair of thick, cotton trousers is not the most comfortable thing to wear.

The World Wars did a lot for shorts. Soldiers in tropical locations needed to stay cool and they didn’t care about fashion, so they were issued shorts. After the war ended, they continued wearing shorts back at home. Though it took several decades for shorts to become commonplace (and for women to start wearing them), it eventually happened.

Today, shorts are as accepted as they have ever been. Though they still cannot be worn in a formal setting such as an office, it’s not at all uncommon to see shorts everywhere you look if you are in public on a hot day.

Types of Shorts
There are many different varieties of shorts. Some of the most interesting include:

Boxer shorts. These are underwear masquerading as shorts. They should be worn under pants or real shorts.

Cut-offs. These shorts were originally pants, but they were surgically altered by having their legs cut off.

Hot pants. These shorts are extra short and tight. They are usually worn by women in an attempt to show off the shape of their buttocks.

Skorts. These may look like a skirt, but they are actually shorts.

Board shorts. These are worn mostly by males. They are often patterned. Some are so long that they resemble pants.

Capri pants. These shorts are so long that they extend past the knee.

Lederhosen. These are traditional German shorts. They are made of leather.
